Still Smiling After All These Years
In 1996, Larry sensed something wasn’t right with his health. One of his arms didn’t have the same range of motion it used to. That’s when his doctor explained that he was living with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.
“Normally everybody knows Parkinson’s from the shakiness,” Larry’s wife Joyce said. “In Larry’s case, he cannot move. He becomes almost paralyzed.”
When Larry’s doctor explained how Parkinson’s would affect his lifestyle, Larry was in disbelief. It wasn’t long before he began to notice physical changes.
“Sometimes I’ll try to open a door or something, and I’ll just freeze up, unable to move,” Larry said.
Larry and his doctor meet regularly to ensure he is getting the best treatment available. Through The Assistance Fund’s (TAF’s) Parkinson’s Disease Copay Assistance Program, Larry receives assistance for out-of-pocket costs for prescribed FDA-approved treatment, such as copays, deductibles, and coinsurance.
“Nobody has given as much as TAF does,” Joyce said. “Because of TAF, we are able to still enjoy certain things in life, and we still have a home.”
Equipped with peace of mind from TAF, Larry and Joyce embrace life and live each day to the fullest. Larry still loves to be outside and ride his bicycle every chance he has.
“Life is still good,” Joyce said. “With Larry, it really is.”
